So you wanna be a ballerina

Class 1

McKenna had been saying for months that she wanted to learn how to be a ballerina.  So we signed her up.  It was tough to watch the first class.  She seemed sad and disappointed.  The teacher said it was fairly normal for a first class at this age.  She looked adorable.

Class 2

She said she wanted to go back, so we signed her up for 9 weeks.  So we got her a new leotard and new ballet shoes.  The next class went slightly better, but its like she's afraid to try.  And I don't know how to get her over that.

This was before class actually started.  Just goofing around and having fun.  It seemed like that was the only part of class she enjoyed.

This one doesn't really have anything to do with dance class.  But she's cute.

Class 3

She's still so reluctant to try.  I try to be encouraging and not push her too hard, but its so frustrating because she just won't try.  I tell her it doesn't matter how good she is.  Just trying is all that matters and thats how she'll learn.

She was all about the costume though.

An oldie...

Class 4

Well, in cases there were huge improvements. And in others it felt like it was that first class again.  Between classes 3 and 4 I kept asking if she wanted to practice at home and every time I got a no.  I really don't know what to do.  I'm still hoping that it will come together for her and she can enjoy it.  If not we've got 5 weeks to go.

She dances to the beat of her own drummer...and sometimes to the one everyone else hears too.

Princess Academy - Fail

So there was this event at a local high school.  The drama club was hosting a princess academy.  It was supposed to be a series of quick activities where the kids got to meet princesses and princes.  I don't know how many people they were expecting, but I'm pretty sure it was a tiny fraction of the number that showed up.  In the end it was an epic fail and there were lots of disappointed little princesses.

I'm not sure how I took this photo. She was on my shoulders trying to get a look at Cinderella.

The only saving grace was that she got to hold hands with Prince Charming and he complimented her on her rings.

In an effort to save the day we went and got ice cream - even though there was snow on the ground.  There was something about the way the light came through the window hitting her little face and the pure joy she found in that twist with sprinkles.  Especially considering how sad she was.  If only ice cream had the power to heal all wounds like that.
