The Blizzard of 2010

The week before Christmas a record snow storm hit DC.  Depending on exactly where you were how much snow there was, but we had about 20 inches.  The last week of January gave us another 6 inches.  It wouldn't have been so bad if it hadn't come down so quickly and if they had done anything to clear or treat the roads.

That brings us to last Friday...

This is what things looked like around 3PM when I got home.  Snow was coming down pretty quickly but it was warm enough that it was melting as soon as it hit the ground, so it looked like it had been raining heavily for a few hours.

As the sun went down along with the temperature the snow began to stick.  Thankfully Ian got home from work before things got really bad.  Here's what we woke up to Saturday morning...

Sorry for the quality of some of the pictures.  I was taking them through the windows which aren't very clean on the outside plus there is a screen involved.  The snow just kept coming down so I took a few more pictures around 1:30 on Saturday.

If you compare this one to the one above they look about the same, however you can barely see parts of the cars in this one.

This was my attempt to get a shot of 395, however the window was covered with moisture and I wasn't about to actually step out on that balcony.

And that brings us to Sunday.  The sun came out and if it wasn't for the mess on the ground it would have been a beautiful day.

What a time to be 8 months pregnant!
